Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) is a feature within the Network Awareness feature to indicate whether or not your computer has Internet connectivity. There may be a situation within your corporate network that you may want to disable NCSI.
Warning: Disabling NCSI may cause adverse effects to programs and features, if you are running Windows 8 or later operating systems as these operating systems has APIs for programs that report or query NCSI.
Steps to disable NCSI
- Open GPMC
- Open or create the desired GPO
- Browse to Computer Configuration\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Internet Communication Management
- In the details pain double click Turn off Windows Network Connectivity Status active tests
- Select Enable, click OK
- NCSI is now disabled.
